i feel like they can't play together for more than 15 minutes without someone freaking out. now, i do have 3 very strong willed children. maybe that has something to do with it. i feel like the majority of my day is spent playing the part of a referee. everything is fine and then, all of a sudden, i hear isaiah screaming, i hear running down the hallway and a slamming door and caelyn yelling, 'i don't like you.' and then, i hear isaiah running down the hallway and banging on her door and screaming at her. my kids are intense. (now, just to let you know, there is resolution. i don't just let them do that and not address it. i go up and mediate. they are disciplined for screaming and slamming doors and hurting feelings. they apologize and forgive. and then do it all over again. *sigh* does anyone else have intense, strong willed, spirited children?)
and then, there are times like today when, during a semi crisis, they show me that they do, really and truly, love each other.
this afternoon during rest time. my 5 year old son decided that he was going to build a tower of toy bins to stand on to reach something. he had a tower 3 high. he got up and tried to stand on it, fell over and hit his head on the corner.
he had one of those cuts where you're not quite sure if you should go to the er or not. i called my husband first because he had the van, so if we decided he needed to go, i needed a way to get us there. next, i called my friend leigh because her husband is an rn. i talked to him and, as i described it, he said that it was up to us. if we didn't mind a little scar, it would be fine if we didn't take him. my husband got home and i told him, never mind. lol. i probably should have called craig (leigh's husband) first before i had jeff (my husband) drive 30 minutes home from work.
anyway, back to the sibling thing. as isaiah is screaming his head off, my daughter and younger son come downstairs. my daughter had packed up some things to take with us in case we needed to go to the hospital. toys and stuffed animals to play with. then she pulled up a chair next to isaiah and kept telling him over and over again things like, 'it's going to be ok isaiah.'; 'it'll be ok if we have to go to the hospital. i'll go with you.'; 'you're at home. you don't have anything to be scared of here at home!'.
when he had calmed down a bit, caelyn says, 'isaiah, do you know what lesson you learned today?' isaiah answers, 'no, what?' caelyn says, 'don't climb on the bins!!' isaiah laughed and says, 'yeah.'
isaiah kept asking me if he was going to have to go to the hospital. i kept telling him i didn't know. after i would say, 'i don't know.', he wold start crying all over again. caelyn told him that if he does have to go, she would go with him. i then informed caelyn that if he did, in fact, have to go to the hospital, she would not be going. daddy would be home and i would be taking isaiah to the hospital by myself. when isaiah heard that, he flipped out. crying, 'noooooo! i want caelyn to come with meeee. i want caelyn to come with meeeee!' i calmed him down again.
i continued to talk to different people on the phone, and then i hear caelyn say this, 'isaiah, i'm really sorry you got hurt. i really am. if i could, i would take your hurt away. if i could, i would take your cut and put it right here (pointing to her head) on my head. i really would.' isaiah says, 'really?'. caelyn says, 'yes. i would'. isaiah says, 'i love you, caelyn.'.
i cheer inside, 'yay!!! they really do love each other!!!!'
and then, the cycle starts again. ;)
