my first attempt at a five minute friday (on saturday:))

i found the gypsy mama via jenny over at sidac. jenny had linked up to the gypsy mama for a five minute friday last week.  i loved her post and then, when i went to check out the gypsy mama, i loved the idea even more. i decided to try it out this week.

this week, the prompt is: the women. i'm a little nervous, but here i go.

start

i was standing on a street corner wiating for the light to change when i saw them. a group of five women, one older than the other four. they were somewhat prtective of her. surrounding her. almost,it seemed, unconsciously, to make sure she wasn't bearing the brunt of the hustles and bustle going on around tehm. they were laughing and talking.. huge smiles on their faces. they were pointing to the things around them. one had a map. i concluded that they were in the city for a girl's weekend.

as i watched, i could tell that these were women who loved each other passionately. besides watching them smile and laugh, they seemed to exude joy. they were happy to be exactly where they were with who they with.

the light changed and we all stepped out onto the street and as i passed them, i caught the eye of one and she smiled at me. i wanted to turn around and ask if  i could join them on whatever adventure they were going to have that day, knwoing that whatever they ended up doing, i'd be surrounded by joy and love.

stop

whew. i'm not sure i liked that. now, i do have to admit, this was the second attempt. i got so freaked out during the first that i stopped the clock and erased what i had written. i really, really want to go back and edit, but i'm restraining myself.  i'm looking for more creativity. i want to let it out and not feel like i have to censor every little thing. this is how we grow right? maybe later i can go back and look at what i would change and reword, blah, blah, blah.

ok, by posting this, i am making a choice to be vulnerable. aack. not that there are lots of people that are going to read this, but.... ok, whatever, here i go....

  1. Kellie, I think it was brilliant. I don't know what city...but I was picturing NYC with the busyness and the people and maybe a mom with her 4 grown daughters who all knew each other well...laughing, planning, joking... Like you I wanted to join them or follow them or know them or that the very least, observe them more. Beautiful job!
