50 things project

my mom turned 50 at the end of march. i really wanted to do something special for her especially because she lives over 500 miles away and i wouldn't be able to see her. about a week and a half before her birthday, i came up with this brilliant plan to make her 50 things. since i was going to have to mail it, i would have to make those 50 things in a week. yeah, i still haven't mailed the box. i worked so hard. at first, i really didn't think it sounded too bad, but as i started making things, and more things, and more things..... well, i realized that 50 things is a lot!! the kids helped. i bought 5x7 canvases and they each painted her a picture. my daughter wrote her a poem and colored her a separate picture. my son made her a pink paper airplane. but, still, it's 50 things!!

even though it's a lot, i have been having so much fun!!! i went online and found a bunch of things that seemed easy and creative and something my mom would like to have. i made magnets, fabric flower pins, necklaces and earrings, spring wreaths, and a wall hanging of pictures on canvas. there are so many fabulous tutorials out there. i've made so many things that i've never tried before. again, it's been so fun!!

i did get a little burnt out after crafting for days on end and my house kind of fell apart. i took a break, since i was already too late to get it to her in time for her birthday, but i'm getting back on the crafty wagon this week to finish up. i've got 10 more items to go.

i really need to figure out how to do a photo collage for this kind of post. because i can't do that, i'm just going to show a few of the photos of my favorite things i've done. i don't want to overwhelm you with photos!

here we go:

this was one of the fabric flower pins i made. the tutorial is for a headband. i'm going to make one of these as a headband sometime soon!

i saw this tutorial for stamped tiles and i loved them. the ones in the tutorial are gorgeous!! my favorite tile is the one on the top left.

i love this photo on canvas wall hanging. it was so super easy and really inexpensive!!

i saw this necklace and thought it was so super amazing i had to try it. i thought it turned out so great! i did use wire instead of chain and i don't like the way it feels. i'm going to remake it using the chain. should have followed the directions. :)

this next necklace i used a tutorial for the pendant, but the rest of the necklace and the earrings are me. i am so in love with making these pendants now! i used the same technique for the magnets i made, but i used smaller glass circles.

i had a picture in my head of a necklace that i really, really wanted to make. i went to the craft store to get the beads. they didn't have the kind of beads that i wanted. i went to another craft store. they didn't have the beads that i wanted. my vision was not going to happen. so frustrating! this is what my picture morphed into.  i do like the way it turned out though. it's just very different than what i had originally planned.
tutorial for the flower is the same as the blue flower up above.
a month or so ago i saw a necklace at target that i loved. i've been wanting to recreate it somehow. it's just one long rope of chain and beads. i have 2 different pictures of ways to wear it. i LOVE this necklace. i want to make one for me!!

i'm linking up with jenny over at the southern institute for domestic arts and crafts for creative me monday! so excited! i love letting the 'creative me' come out and sidac is definitely one of my top 5 favorite blogs. i'm looking forward to seeing the 'creative me' part of everybody! 1. Those necklaces are SO great. They remind me of one I was looking at in a catalog for around $80. She'll love those.

  2. Wow! What a fun gift idea!

For a photo collage: I downloaded Google's Picasa. You can edit pictures and create collages easily. That's how I created the collages I've used.
