mmmmm, cake

i made a cake. yes, a cake. why?, you ask. oh, just for fun. fun? yes. fun. i was looking at a bakery's facebook page and she had all these beautiful cakes and cupcakes and all of a sudden the desire for cake just welled up within me. go figure.  i searched and searched on allrecipes.  i was very specific. i wanted a really yummy chocolate cake with custard like filling and a light frosting. i found exactly what i was looking for.

i was really, really excited about this cake. really, really. i felt kind of silly about how excited i was about this cake. i have made cakes from scratch before, but i've never done 4 layers. yes, 4 layers. the cake came out beautifully. while it was cooling, i made the custard filling. dreamy. the frosting, after i asked my husband to go to the store and get me some powdered sugar because i had totally forgotten to put it on my list and if it's not on the list i don't remember, was fabulous.

it was sooo good. i mean seriously, really good. for real, really good.
